The Wellbeing Health In Reach Nurse (WHIN) is a registered nurse who provides a range of support and coordination with the aim of contributing to improved education, health, and wellbeing outcomes for children, young people and families. Tasks undertaken by the WHIN may include identifying and triaging health needs of children, young people and families to coordinate appropriate assessments, and developing referral pathways into relevant services. All three WHINs are part of a two year pilot until June 2020 and are employed by NSW Health but funding for the Nurses employed in Tumut and Cooma come from Snowy-Hydro while funds for the Young position come from the NSW Ministry of Health. WHINs receive referrals from the school Principal and Learning Support teams.
