Stories and highlights

There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.

Sporting achievements

Monaro High School hold whole-school swimming and athletics carnivals each year. Students from each sporting house (Kendall, Paterson, Gordon and Lawson) get into the spirit and cheer each other on in friendly competition.

Often students qualify to compete in the zone, regional, state and sometimes even reaching the national level.

There are also opportunities for students to participate in many other sporting competitions such as cross country, basketball, netball, soccer, rugby, tennis, golf, equestrian, snowsports and more.

One highlight for students is the annual Sports Tour. Selected students travel to the Gold Coast and experience professional sport engagement and countless athletic development and testing opportunities unavailable in our region.

Theatre productions

Each year, Monaro High School puts on one main theatre production. Taking advantage of the school's state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, the production allows students to gain valuable experience into what goes into a professional theatre production.

The project involves students across all years, and from cast to crew, they can experience all kinds of roles to put the live show together.

The PAC is also utilised by students throughout the year for other performances such as music and dance.

Rise and Recognise

At Monaro High School, we believe in acknowledging the hard work students put in across all areas of school life.

At the end of each semester, the award ceremonies are held to recognise student's academic and sporting achievements.

In 2025, the Rise and Recognise awards were introduced as a way to celebrate the efforts and achievements of students who may not necessarily have been acknowledged in the traditional awards ceremonies.

Trade and Career Expo

Monaro High School hosts an annual Trade and Career Expo which invites Year 9-12 students from across the Snowy Monaro region region come to MHS to investigate a variety of trade and job possibilities for their future career pathways.

Local businesses and tertiary education institutions set up information stalls and displays at MHS, with students able to get information about different job and training opportunities available to them.

It has been a well-received event since it began in 2023.

"Monaro High School offers amazing academic options and my child is always encouraged to try new things.” — a parent of Monaro High School.
